If you have ever visited the city of Manchester, you should be familiar with a lot of the things to see within the city and where and when to visit. The city is a highly active place, brimming with media companies and creativity, but where should you visit?

Manchester is a highly-cultured and exuberant environment, with an important musical history and thriving LGBT community. Whilst larger cities such as London and Brighton might appear to have a stronger appeal than Manchester, there are an array of things to do and see, within a very attractive environment.

I frequently visit Manchester, sometimes for only a very short time and never struggle to find a good way to spend the day. These are some of my favourite attractions to see in this city of opportunity.

5. Art – The Whitworth Art Gallery: Free to enter, this attraction contains around 55,000 items for viewing, as well as innovative and often controversial exhibits. Roughly a year ago, My reason for the visit to this gallery was to view an exhibit called ‘Kinderzimmer’, designed by Gregor Schneider, which was a large room with no light in at all, save for a poorly-lit small room at the other end, containing nothing but an old mattress that looked used. Deeply unsettling but highly effective.

4. For lovers of museums, the Manchester Museum: Owned by Manchester University, it is free to enter and view – it was recently voted as one of the must-see university museums of the UK. Featuring around six million within, such as live animals, salvaged models, dinosaur skeletons/bones, as well as memorabilia from a wide range of historical periods. Fantastic, interesting and free!

3. Gig venues, such as the Manchester Academy: If you enjoy a lot of current bands and new music, then you will feel right at home at Manchester Academy. Music has played an integral part of making Manchester the cultural icon that it has become and this Academy simply reinforces that fact. With upcoming bands scheduled to play, such as Jimmy Eat World, Example and Groove Armada, the Academy always has an amazingly electric atmosphere.

2. Trafford Centre shopping mall: The Trafford Centre frequently attracts shoppers from around the country (and sometimes the world!) to the amazing shops within. The nearby shopping centres have proven very popular with workers with a Manchester office. With a large and modern food court, a cinema and a number of high-street shops (as well as independent retailers), every shopped who visits will be on cloud nine!

1. Attractive landscapes: Although Manchester is typically thought of as a highly industrialised city, it boasts lush greenery, fantastic landscapes and a selection of some of the most famous parks of the UK. Heaton Park is a perfect example of a fantastic attraction, with attractions such as playgrounds and a popular animal centre, this presents the perfect opportunity to relax in fresh air. With a bit of walking, you can also find a number of other parks, some of which offer fantastic facilities for sports.

Whilst, without prior knowledge, it can be even more fun to explore Manchester and discovering your particular favourites, these five things to see will add up to a fantastic experience.

An abundance of workers across the nation have been stuck on trying to develop methods that promote money management over the recent years to ensure they can afford their overheads, cost of living and increasing debt payments to bank lenders – it has been worrying and highly concerning.

There are a number of things people can do to maintain a favourable credit rating which are relatively easy to adopt and are bound to lead to outstanding returns. A few saved pennies can form a pile of cash when added together.

Here are some things to keep in mind that might just give you a helping hand in saving up your valuable dosh so that you can build a hefty sum for you later years – they may not be complex but that’s what makes them so achievable.

If you have set up a savings account and put some money in it already, analyse the interest rate put forward in the terms of the agreement. Decide to scour the market for a savings account that meets your every need and sign on the dotted line as this will furnish you with long term results. Admittedly only a few pennies might be saved it is a notion that can help you make money easily. Shop around or pop into your local bank branch for a quick discussion concerning the account types on offer and the differing rates.

This should make it certain that the savings you have built are kept in a quality account and will produce a bigger amount of cash without you having to take a lot of personal action. Cash in on some stocks and shares if your investing arm is ready to be flexed. But ensure that you watch things closely when in-putting huge figures for investment purposes because unless you know the market well, it can be a bit of a gamble.

Make a fixed standing order amount that goes from your usual account to your great-rate savings account in the few days surrounding the time you receive your pay. That should keep you in good stead to save the amount of cash you intended, even if it’s a pound or just a penny. If you are in a position to get that money in your pocket it inevitably gets spent on a useless purchase that you had no plan to buy anyway.

Have you always wanted to save but never taken the initiative? This moment is well suited to commence your savings wishes! Jot down your income together with your outgoings because a studied calculation of the numbers will help you along your mission to paint a clearer picture of your budget restraints. Think about removing any spends that don’t aren’t vital to running your household, which could include expensive trips, car leasing or frequent visits to the cinema.

Of course these seem like insignificant costs but they can easily build up to a significant figure. Test out taking a packed lunch into work instead of eating out at midday and utilise leftovers by hitting online recipe banks that deliver cost-effective ideas. Stroll to work on foot and leave the car in the drive way to reduce fuel costs.

Stick to these suggestions, use your brain, and focus on attaining a resource of financial advice from any place you can think of.

Bonding well as a team is not just a case of maintaining good colleague relations with your co-workers – it is much more. Clashing personalities can make waves in an office but ultimately respect is the critical to the smooth workings of an office environment.

That is precisely why you should add some team-building activities into your company calendar with the aim of allowing them to be a cohesive and supportive working team. Creating a harmonious staff environment is the key to a good office environment.

This article will lead you through great team building tips and if you read them and try them for yourself then perhaps your office will see an improvement in the team dynamic as a result.

1) When you’re bringing staff together for a task – they must be told why they are there. If you don’t tell your staff why they need to participate in team building they might even think you are assessing them in order to make redundancies. So elucidate why you are keen to create exercises uniting them and forming a strong office bond. In clarifying the objectives of the team building exercises, it gives the employees a chance to loosen up enough to start bonding with other members of your team.

2) Team building is about having fun and removing colleagues from a stale work environment. It is common for office workers in team building exercises to be nervous about winning or being the best. Make sure you reassure staff that they aren’t being assessed and that they can let go and just have fun with the activities. If you see a worker not having a fun time or looking like they feel out of place talk to them and let them know it’s okay to take things at their own pace.

3) Ensure that all your office members take part, in whatever way. Don’t just assume that the louder members of the office will love team building it is for everybody, so make sure you get everybody into the tasks. Make sure you choose activities that don’t just have the loud ones volunteering. It is important to make each and every staff member feel included or you will be missing out on a really important reason for the day.

4) Employ the services of a professional team building company to organise your day. There are specialist companies that arrange team-boosting activities, so it might take all the hassle out of booking a team building day to leave it with them so you know the day will go smoothly. Managers are also expected to get involved and set and example, remember that by taking part you are encouraging other to do so too and you want to show your staff that you are approachable and keen to get involved.

5) Allow plenty of time for your staff to give feedback and reflect on the activities. When the activity is over get your team together and have them go through some of the highlights of the day. What was the best part of the day in their opinion? Who did they talk to? What did your staff learn upon reflection? Have they forged any stronger relationships as a result of the day? Do they have any suggestions for how the day could be improved upon?

So if your team is keen to join in on a fun day then consider what a team building day could do for you. When my company decided to move to Battersea office space our team building day really enabled our company to bond. Why not give it a go?

People spend most of their time at work so it is important to consider how you could change the design of your office to accommodate the health concerns of your workers. And if your company is on the lookout for new office space there couldn’t be a better time to adopt new procedures to promote well-being.

Making sure that you are attentive to the health needs of your employees is really important as our environment can seriously affect our mental outlook, how feel about ourselves and others and even our overall health. For example, think about what a poor standard desk or high uncomfortable chair may do to your staffs mental and physical health.

With these health issues in mind let us go through some possible tips to improve your office to accommodate the health needs of your workers, whether your office is new or you are refurbishing the old office.

1) Firstly, you should ensure that you have the right lighting in your new office and that it is appropriate for the rooms and ceiling height. This is the case as psychological studies have revealed that full spectrum lighting can be a suitable replacement for natural UV light and has even proved effective at reducing stress, tiredness and lethargy. You should test the lights thoroughly and determine whether they will naturally fit into the office or whether it will be glaring in people’s eyes.

2) Next, try to assess the air quality in your office and whether this may affect your staff. EPA studies and reports indicated that poor air quality can be one of the biggest health concerns in the modern workplace; this is because pollutants and toxins will float on dust particles if the air is poorly circulated. Therefore, it really is a good idea to make it a priority to regularly open windows or alternatively you could have an office air conditioning unit installed. These A.C. units can be quite an expense but a few years down the line they should prove to be cost effective, as the amount of sick days taken throughout the year by your workers could be reduced.

3) A few plants and foliage can really help to improve the aesthetics of an office but it can also be the most effective way to remove toxins and pollutants from the air and replace them with oxygen. There is even research that indicates that everyday plants that you find around your house are able to break down harmful chemicals into their constituent parts, which are much safer. They are also one of the most effective ways to make the office seem more environmental and more relaxing for your office staff.

4) Make sure your staff have a posture correcting chair that has been ergonomically tested. Your employees should have a chair that is both comfortable and adjustable, which means that it can be adjusted for any body size or shape. Even though these chairs may be expensive in the long run they will be more than worth it in the long run.

5) Think about putting a little bit of background music on in the office as this is a really simple way to increase emotional and mental well-being, increase social interaction and is also a really good way to dampen some of the background noise from the office. It is also a really good way to get workers stimulated and proactive in the office.

One of our clients, which we have worked with for several years, said that they used these steps when they decided to lease an Atlanta commercial office to open their firm in a new and more appropriate location. Because they got in really early their workers were really happy with the move and in that year the company even had a record low for sick days.

A company which we have worked with for some time used this advice when they decided to lease an Atlanta commercial office to open up a more appropriate office headquarters for their company. Because they took preventative steps the sick rate statistics were significantly lower than in previous years and employees were happy with the move.

Office space typically used to be a very low-key affair with little interior decoration and dull design; however, this no longer applies to business working environments today. Your office plays a key part of making a good first impression on clients and demonstrating strong successes of the company. Usually, you will base your office design on the expected look that conforms with the industry and exhibits skilled design qualities.

The interior design of the office has become particularly important for creative and media companies, as it demonstrates a degree of creative flair quickly and efficiently. Add some more panache to the office with facilities, as this can increase the impressiveness of the business, as well as increasing employee morale and upping the value of your work premises.

These improvements have however been noticed by other companies, so it could become difficult to set your company apart from others and demonstrate a unique style. It is often useful to take a risk in business and choose an unconventional design for your office; however this can prove more costly than expected and create a loss. Below are my top 4 tips to optimise the interior design of your office to ensure that it has a high desirability as well as a strong potential for profit.

4. Free Wi-Fi For Clients: It is commonplace for every company to use the internet in some way today; however there still remain a large number of companies that use cable connections as opposed to wireless connection. Whilst this might seem a logical safety measure, it is somewhat unimpressive for clients – particularly as many will now own smartphones that connect to the internet, potentially wirelessly.

Whilst it might not seem a lot, most clients would be impressed and grateful to surf the internet at your offices – however it is important to password-protect your wireless networking, as this could be leeched by other users, but it would be a good service to provide clients with the password. Clients will then be able to use online software and check all of their e-mails, potentially speeding up the process of securing their business, which could benefit your company significantly.

3. Art/Sculpture: Bare walls in an office show a lack of imagination and can really benefit from some decoration. Generally your choice of décor depends on the industry you are in – media companies might put film posters or pop-art up, whilst a recruitment agency may use simple yet interesting art. Previously I worked in a Bristol office where the art was created solely by staff. The effect of the art will be maximised if all the staff agree on its high quality.

2. Motifs Themed On Company/Display Previous Work: The client is already there so why bother reiterating the company name? Basically, repetition is the ideal to make a name stick in a clients mind and a themed office can also significantly increase the impressiveness of an office and demonstrate confidence in the business. This can be seen in a number of offices such as Twitter, who base their office design on the website they have created. It could also be beneficial to stick newspaper clippings or reviews on the walls, as this will help to reinforce the accomplishments of the company as well as boost employee morale and productivity.

1. Open Plan Workplace: Perhaps one of the best ways to impress clients, an open plan office is a great way to show design skill, as well as encourage staff to interact with each other in an intelligently-designed office space. Particularly useful for smaller companies or SMEs, you can disguise the age of the company by dispersing staff, as this shows forward-thinking and confidence. It also shows flexibility, creative flair and a willingness to adapt – all key to the success of a business.

These are not the definitive facts and it is up to your company to decorate your working environment in your way with the best cost-effectiveness. These are some straightforward recommendations to consider and will help to maximise the potential of your business.

I worked in a Bristol office in which there was a liberal use of modern art on the wall which proved highly effective. To maximise the effect of the art, it is important to ensure all the staff like it also. The Bristol offices are really spacious and have a great, modern design. You can rent as much as one work-desk to a whole floor in this great location.

Corporate workplaces have yet to cotton onto the reasons for the concept of car pooling and its benefits such as working well for the environment and saving lots of money for members involved.

Car pooling is the process of sharing an employee’s car by going in pairs with another colleague who travels the same way to work and sharing the fuel costs between them with some even opting to share the cost of the car too.

Not only will your wallet feel lighter after sharing your car, but you can relax safe in the knowledge that you helped the world and know that you’ll be lowering the amount of toxic emissions – now is the time to organise your car pooling system!

See whether your local council or government runs car pooling initiatives as you might be able to source a private vehicle to get to and from your place of work and ease up the demand on local transport from commuters. There may not be a passenger in the car with you the entire time if you don’t have to pick your car pooler friend up until part-way through which means you can save money without hardly trying at all – car pooling is a no-lose situation!

A few other ways of trying out car pooling include advertising for fellow participants on the internet which will save the costs of advertising and give you an instant match without waiting for newspaper adverts to be processed. If the people you work with are eager to try car pooling it could be of help to talk to your managers who might be inclined to incentivise the scheme thus securing the backing of your company.

Firstly, to get your car share started you’ll have to figure out what your journey will entail and which route you will need to take to pick up your passenger so you don’t end up driving far more than you would normally. This is important, as cutting back on fuel is the goal so ensure that you select the quickest route there is and check the right roads to take before you set off designating a clear pickup point with your car buddy.

If you end up doing a lot more car pooling as a result and you travel considerable distances on your way to work you may like to invite those who do not work with you to join in and in this case they would only pay for the distance they travel. Don’t forget to approach car sharing with safety in mind and you should treat strangers with the same caution you would normally – why not ask a friend or colleague to go with you when you meet your new car sharer for the first time.

When our company decided to move to a Canary Wharf office my bosses decided to roll out a companywide initiative of car pooling to make the new commute to work all the easier. It saved the colleagues in my workforce plenty of money that would otherwise have gone on commuting costs to work were it not for the car sharing scheme – the main benefit is that colleagues get to know each other better.

So if you’re eager to become more eco-friendly and you want the chance to make a dent in your fuel bills as well as helping a fellow worker get to the office then car pooling could well be your answer!

Canary Wharf is very well known location to the east of central London. When our company decided to move to a Canary Wharf office my bosses took it upon themselves to start an initiative for the whole company of car pooling so that the commute to work would be made easier.

Cutting down on your spending is tough. Imagine the scenario – you’ve accepted a job that pays 40 per cent less than what you’re used to in the last few years simply because the new job will allow you to have a life, keep a relationship and have “me” time in the evenings and on weekends. Or you’ve decided to buy a house and you need to save that amount to meet payments.

The main thing is, you’ll need to curb spending while keeping to a certain lifestyle. Tricky but can be done. Naturally, there will be some adjusting.

Here are some pointers that are easy to abide by :

1. Don’t get too caught up with advertisements

Switch television stations when ads come on air. Walk quickly away from the shop window showcasing the latest Coach handbag. Try buying for the sake of quality rather than brand loyalty. On the same note, don’t go to shopping malls for entertainment.

2. Master the 30-day rule

Whenever you’re considering making an unnecessary purchase, wait 30 days and then ask yourself if you still want that item. Quite often, you’ll find that the urge to buy has passed and you would have saved yourself some money by simply waiting. You can even keep a “30-day list” where you write down the item and the day you’ll reconsider it, but keeping this one in your head often causes you to simply forget about the unimportant things.

On the same note : Master the 10-second rule where you consider adding the item to your shopping cart before hitting the checkout counter.

3. Write a list – and stick to it.

One should never go into a store without a strong idea of what one will be buying while in there. Make a careful plan of what you want to buy before you go, then stick strictly to that list when you go to the store. Don’t put anything in the cart that’s not on the list, no matter how tempting, and you’ll come out of the store saving a bundle.

4. Being with your kids doesn’t need money

Do house chores with kids and turn it into a game. Include them in a baking lesson or simply sit and doodle on a piece of very large paper with them. Make up stories for a storytelling session – you begin with a line and they can continue the tale until each one has a turn or until the story ends. Throw a tea party for their dolls – yes, it’s still in fashion!

5. Cut back on store – bought junk

At the risk of sounding preachy, here it is, drink more water rather than carbonated drinks, juice, tea or coffee. It’s cost effective, healthier and has more hydration value. There’s no need to grab a burger on your way home or a bag of chips. What you pay there is a lot of packaging, advertising and overheads instead of goodness. Local snacks such as tapioca chips or homemade ones are just as good and less fatty too. On the same note : Prepare meals at home.

6. Keeping your utilities bill manageable

Turn off lights when leaving a room and change to lower wattage bulbs in common areas. Do ironing once a week rather than daily, one piece at a time. Use a kettle on a stove rather than an electric one and if the latter, keep it to a minimum use rather than boiling water 4 to 5 times a day. A timer for the air-conditioner helps to turn it off after 3 to 4 hours, sufficient time to cool a room. Do a full load of laundry once a week rather than half loads, two or three times a week.

7. Chores you can do yourself

Wash your own car. Weed your own garden. Clean your own home. Groom your own pet. Be with your own kids rather than leave them with a sitter for the weekend. Surprisingly, all these can save you a great deal and force you to be active (and perspire, which are good things!)

On the same note : Have a babysitting co-op with your neighbors where a set of parents take turns to babysit the kids each weekend.

8. Unsubscribe services

Be it pay television, internet provider, club memberships and magazine subscriptions, think hard just how much you need something and downsize. Choose cheaper packages for the internet and pay television, for instance. And do you really need to be a member of so many clubs? Think about it.

On the same note : Cut down on spa expenses with home spa sessions or exchange massage favors with your other half.

9. Keep healthy

As you’ve guessed it , this will keep medical bills at a minimum if not zero and keep you happy, active and money-worry-free.

On the same note : Eat breakfast because it’s the most inexpensive meal of the day and exercise a little more that you normally do.

10. Don’t speed

First of all when you drive at the speed limit, you save petrol and of course – which can pile up and cost s bundle.
