Turn off lights when leaving a room and change to lower wattage bulbs in common areas. Do ironing once a week rather than daily, one piece at a time. A timer for the air-conditioner helps to turn it off after 3 to 4 hours, sufficient time to cool a room. Do a full load of laundry once a week rather than half loads, two or three times a week.

7.  Chores you can do yourself

Wash your own car. Weed your own garden. Clean your own home. Groom your own pet. Be with your own kids rather than leave them with a sitter for the weekend. Surprisingly, all these can save you a great deal and force you to be active (and perspire, which are good things!)

8.  Unsubscribe services
